Dr Phillip Leftwich and Dr Robbie Baldock presented two innovative projects at the sixth #DryLabsRealScience webinar. Phillip, who is at the University of East Anglia spoke about Benchlings, an interactive lab workbook which is molecular biology focused. It looks like a fantastic tool for those people teaching molecular biology and inspired a bit of background reading around interactive workbooks from me. Perhaps we should be encouraging students to keep lab books right from the first experiment that they do at university so they can see the progress they make as well as having a resource they can take to postgraduate interviews as evidence of their experience?
The use of digital tools in teaching is something that I am always passionate about, so it was brilliant to hear from Robbie, who is at Solent University, talk about augmented reality (AR), which is something I have always been fascinated by, but have never really explored as a teaching tool…that’s certainly going to change after listening to Robbie’s inspiring presentation.
